Dr Ed Coats delivered a plenary session and a workshop at our 5th annual Quality and Safety in Healthcare event. He enthralled an audience of over 200 multi-professional healthcare providers and academics from across Grampian, sharing his experience & learning from his travel to the South Pole and the importance of teamwork and how individuals cope under extreme duress and the need for a shared vision. Some feedback from delegates:
Fabulous ‘storytelling’ with powerful points that can be translated to our NHS organisation and teams.
Ed’s session was a fantastic story that threaded through a lot of valuable lessons that are very comparable with day to day working in healthcare.
Ed was a compelling speaker and his presentation was coherent, interesting and everyone should have been able to relate something of his experiences to their role and function
The workshop, to 45 invited guests, involved understanding human behaviour and the impact on teams and their performance. This stimulated discussion and an opportunity to share and think what we can do differently to improve the quality of the healthcare we deliver. Much of what Ed shared is pertinent to healthcare today.
Overall, a highly engaging speaker who I would highly recommend to motivate your organisation to understand behaviours and the challenges with teamwork and the leadership that is required to improve the quality and safety of the healthcare we deliver.
